Just one week ago Natalie and I packed our bags for ICAST 2013 in Las Vegas hoping to make a few new fishing connections while spreading the word about the importance of getting more women out there on water. Little did we realize that we were about to get some of the best news of our lives.
I had been wandering around the ICAST press lounge last Wednesday afternoon, trying to figure out what innovative new tackle product or type of fishing gear would most appeal to our blog readers. Then, IT happened… a smiling brunette woman walked up to me and asked if we would care to share our fondest fishing memory in exchange for the chance to win a guest spot on a show called Lunkerville. It only took a few seconds for Natalie and I to agree on which experience it would be. Before we knew it, we were sitting side-by-side on a black couch about to tell our story to Mike de Avila and a TV camera.
Natalie had already watched a few episodes of Lunkerville on the World Fishing Network (the show also airs on the NBC Sports network), and filled me in on the unique documentary format of the show. Host “Mike D” tells the stories of everyday recreational anglers by traveling to their secret spots and sharing their special techniques. I had been connected with Mike on Twitter, so I was certainly anxious to chat with him while learning more about the people on his show and the fishing spots involved.
The camera rolled as we excitedly relayed the events that took place on a saltwater trip to Wiggins Pass in Naples, FL, to Mike. Then, we crossed our fingers and waited in suspense for the next 24 hours. Would our story have what it would take to get Mike on a plane and down to OUR Lunkerville? Well, let’s just say that when that same smiling brunette called my cell phone the next day, I think I may have blew her ear drum straight out when I squealed with delight at the news… WE WERE HEADED TO LUNKERVILLE!
Blog readers, what’s your favorite fishing memory? After telling ours to Mike, we’d love to hear how one specific day of fishing just may have changed your life!
